AP Pension has invested in a Morgan Stanley fund that aims to reduce carbon emissions by 1GT ahead of 2050.
Danish pension fund AP Pension has invested in the Morgan Stanley 1 Gigaton fund, which aims to remove one gigaton of CO2-equivalent emissions from the Earth’s atmosphere by 2050.
1GT is focused on investments in growth-stage companies that will seek to collectively avoid or remove one gigaton of carbon dioxide-equivalent (CO2e) emissions from the Earth’s atmosphere from the date of investment through 2050 – the date by which the UN has mandated the achievement of ‘Net Zero’.

The private equity fund is focused on investments in companies that aim to reduce carbon emissions in sectors such as sustainable food and agriculture, the circular economy, energy, and transport.
Helle Aerendahl Heldbo, head of alternative investments at AP Pension, said last week that the firm’s focus is not to invest in the fund based on a ‘philanthropic mindset,’ but to help deliver good returns to their clients.
AP Pension is an independent pension company and currently has around €20bn in assets.
