Hartford Launches Its First Private-Equity-Focused Fund

New fund will invest in small- and medium-sized buyout and growth companies that have enterprise values from $50 million to $1 billion

Hartford Funds has launched Hartford Schroders Private Opportunities Fund (HSPOF), a new fund for accredited investors that will invest in private equity.

HSPOF will invest both directly and through co-investments in small- and medium-sized buyout and growth companies that have enterprise values from $50 million to $1 billion. Sectors of interest include healthcare, technology, consumer, services, and industrials. In addition, the fund will also invest in primary and secondary private equity funds located in the United States, Europe, and Asia.

HSPOF is sub-advised by Schroder Investment Management North America and Schroders Capital Management that have advised Hartford Funds for more than seven years. Benjamin Alt, Head of Global Private Equity Portfolios and Head of Private Equity Consumer Investments at Schroders Capital, and Ethan Vogelhut, Head of Buyout Investments Americas at Schroders Capital, will serve as portfolio managers of HSPOF.

“Over the course of this market cycle, we have witnessed meaningful change to traditional investment practices, including the increased democratization of alternative markets for retail investors. At the same time, the number of privately owned companies far exceeds the number of publicly owned companies, creating an expansive opportunity set with the potential for higher growth and attractive returns,” said Vernon Meyer, the chief investment officer at Hartford Funds.

Hartford Funds provides asset management services across numerous strategies – equities, fixed income, and alternative investments – to individual and institutional investors. The firm has more than $129 billion in assets under management and is headquartered near Philadelphia in Wayne, Pennsylvania. Hartford Funds is owned by The Hartford Financial Services Group (NYSE: HIG).
